Defence & Comfort
Rukka motorcycling garments are designed and manufactured according to the Rukka Defence & Comfort performance standards to meet even the strictest criteria set for protectiveness and riding comfort.

Controlled quality
From the planning stage to the final product, Rukka spares no expense to obtain the best possible results. Every single material is tested several times by both the supplier and Rukka before being used in production. The manufacturing process itself is also subject to constant evaluation.
In the final development stage professional testers and experienced motorcycling enthusiasts evaluate the prototypes’ functionality in field tests. The findings from countless testing sessions in cold and hot weather, rain and snow are also taken into account before the product is approved for large-scale production.

Active safety through enhanced comfort
All protectors carried in Rukka motorcycling garments meet the CE norm EN 1621-1 2012 and function equally in all weather conditions. The elasticity of our breathable back, shoulder, elbow, knee, shin and hip protectors divides the possible impact into a wide area and acts as a shock absorber.
Each outfit functions best in a defined comfort area. Either hot or cold, rainy or sunny – various technologies are utilised depending on the intended riding conditions.

How did it all start?
In 1950, Roger “Rukka” Störling founded a small business that initially specialised in jogging wear. The earliest products were made in the kitchen of an old farmhouse in Kokkola, on the west coast of Finland. The company acquired its first seam welding machines in 1953 and broadened its product range into waterproof rainwear, marking the start of Rukka’s journey to the top of weatherproof motorcycling apparel.
Decades of passion
The company changed its name to Rukka Products after the founder’s nickname in 1966 and by the 80s, the name was shortened further to just Rukka Oy. It was during this period that Rukka first expanded its portfolio to cover the founder’s motorcycling passion with high-quality apparel designed specifically for motorcyclists.
Since 1990, Rukka has been part of Luhta Sportswear Company, one of Europe’s largest sportswear manufacturers based in Lahti, Finland. In addition to Rukka, the L-Fashion Group is home to brands like Luhta, Icepeak and Torstai.
During the product development process, Rukka closely cooperates with various research and development institutions to create the best product possible. In active collaboration with suppliers such as Gore and DuPont, new materials are developed and their suitability for functional clothing is tested.

The Rukka logo
As Rukka hails from a coastal town in Western Finland, making sailing equipment was a natural choice and constituted a major part of the company’s business for a long time.
This is reflected to this day in the distinctive Rukka logo: the flags are part of the international maritime signal alphabet and spell out the letters R, U, K, K and A.

Did you know?
Outside of motorcycling outfits, Rukka is best known for its iconic yellow raincoats, which have been in production for almost 70 years now.
The idea for a seam-welded waterproof coat was actually born on a motorcycle, when Roger Störling rode nearly 500 kilometres through torrential rain to see the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.
Necessity really is the mother of invention, but thankfully our technology has advanced a lot since the days of rubber coats as riding outfits!
