With Dachstein‘s roots in the heart of the Alps and our background in mountain sports, we have developed shoes for alpine and urban terrain since 1925. That is when our story began, with Anton Lintner setting up a shoemaker’s shop in Molln and naming it after the Dachstein, the highest mountain in Upper Austria.
What started as a small manufacturer, turned into one of the first shoe production sites in Austria. Dachstein quickly became famous for making sturdy mountain boots for alpinists and also the Austrian military.
The son of the founder, Toni Lintner, turned the shoemaking business into a leading international manufacturer of ski and mountain boots. Dachstein was also represented as a supplier in skiing, which helped the company to become known worldwide. Popular athletes won World Cup victories and medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships wearing Dachstein boots.
Ski boots were as important and the biggest business. What were leather boots with metal buckles in the past became direct-injected plastic boots all made in Austria.
In the 80´s Dachstein sold over 1.5 million pairs of ski boots and over 1 million pairs of hiking shoes.
100 years of inspiration
From the very beginning at Dachstein we have combined the traditional Austrian shoe craftsmanship with innovative ideas to offer the best mountain experiences for the mountain-enthusiasts.
In the past years we pulled of some breaking innovation in the outdoor segment. Today we are part of a leading Finnish clothing group, Luhta Sportswear Company, also one of the largest sportswear companies in Europe.
In 2025 we had the honour to celebrate the 100-year anniversary and offer a whole anniversary collection with shoes for all adventures.
