WHAT TO WEAR FOR WINTER RUNNING?
Even in winter, you can and should enjoy a variety of outdoor sports, and going for a run is always easy, regardless of the time and place. Running in winter requires special attention to clothing, so we've put together our top tips for building the perfect outfit to enjoy your run all winter long!
Start with the base layer
A proper outfit starts with choosing the right base layer for the weather. The underwear shirt and pants act like a second layer of skin, warming your body and wicking moisture off your skin. For more casual and everyday active winter jogging, we recommend our underwear with warming Thermal materials and natural fibres. For higher-intensity running, our A.W.S PRO and EXTREME products offer top-level technical features with carefully considered structural details.
Choose your winter running pants and midlayer carefully
In winter, water-repellent, warming and functional materials such as softshell, Thermal and hybrid materials should be favoured for running pants. Winter running in the coldest temperatures is comparable to any other winter sport, so skiing trousers or a wadded skirt for extra warmth can also be excellent choices.
Especially in very cold weather and light activity, layering is important. Between the base layer and the outer jacket, wear a midlayer that has the right features for your use and the prevailing temperature.
Protect yourself from the weather with a technical jacket
A weatherproof jacket provides protection from the cold as well as unexpected snow and rain showers. Running in winter requires materials that are warm, breathable and water-repellent, so a hybrid jacket or a combination of a lightweight jacket and a hybrid vest are great choices. Jackets designed for skiing are also ideal for running in extreme frosts.

Get protective and sturdy winter running shoes
When choosing running shoes, take at least the following features into account:
•The grip of the sole
•Warming properties
•Breathability
•Waterproofness
Running on icy and snowy terrain requires a shoe that not only provides exceptional grip but also protection from cold and moisture, while still allowing the foot to breathe. In particularly slippery terrain, spiked shoes are a good choice, while hybrid shoes with a waterproof membrane are ideal for mud and rain. Rukka's collection offers women's shoes and men's footwear with top technical features for winter conditions.

Complete the outfit with warming accessories
Accessories are an important addition to a functional outfit in winter frosts and when running in the cold. Protect yourself from frostbite, especially your head, ears, hands and neck, according to your own cold sensitivity. Wind and water resistance are also good features in accessories, and the thickness of a hat and gloves, for example, can be varied depending on the temperature.
