Towards Circular Economy-aligned Collections
The circular economy is at the core of our sustainability efforts. One of the three key goals of our sustainability strategy is to achieve circular collections by 2040. We are advancing toward this goal systematically, taking the entire product lifecycle into account. Our primary objective is to enable the longest possible lifespan for our products. This includes, for example, carefully managed material sourcing processes, enabling repairability and maintenance, and considering the recyclability of materials and products already at the design stage.
Circular Economy in Product Design, Material Choices and Production
At the heart of our design philosophy is the creation of durable, long-lasting products that are worth maintaining and repairing when needed. To achieve our circular economy goals, we take future lifecycle stages of products into account already during the design and production phases. Our product design is guided by internal policies and guidelines that emphasize quality, product functionality in its intended use, and material durability. Read more about our material testing here. Based on these principles, our collections are produced, whenever possible, using recycled, renewable, responsibly sourced or innovative materials.
Improving resource efficiency is a key part of promoting the circular economy. Our goal is to use materials and resources as efficiently as possible in production and procurement, and to strive to minimize waste, loss, and the generation of waste, while ensuring the highest possible quality and durability of the end product.
Responsibility for the Entire Product Lifecycle
In line with our 2040 goal, products and the materials they contain are kept in use for as long as possible through service models, material reuse and recycling. As one of the first Finnish consumer apparel manufacturers, we take full responsibility for the lifecycle of the products we design and manufacture through our Luhta ReUse operations.
Luhta ReUse
Through the Luhta ReUse programme, we take comprehensive responsibility for our products’ lifecycles by returning the products we design, manufacture and sell back into circulation. The aim of the programme is to extend product lifespans by directing them to new uses based on their condition and intended purpose. Within the Luhta ReUse process, used garments gain a new life either as second hand products on our platform or continue their lifecycle as products or materials with our partner organizations.
We accept used Luhta products in all of our stores in Finland, and second hand items returned through the ReUse programme have their own dedicated section in our online store. Read more about ReUse and explore the available selection of used products here.
Unfortunately, not all returned products are always suitable for resale or for the ReUse platform. We do not sell damaged, broken or heavily worn products through our online platform, where customers cannot physically inspect the item before making a purchase decision. Minor defects that do not affect usability are disclosed in the product information, as are any repairs carried out by us. As with all our other products, ReUse items also include a right of return.
In line with the waste hierarchy, we aim to sort returned products for the highest possible value use. Our primary approach is to repair products to make them resaleable, with material recycling used only as a last resort. If a product cannot or should not be repaired but remains usable, it is donated—pre-sorted—to our circular economy partners.
We also collaborate with educational institutions by offering materials removed from the sorting process to students and emerging designers. This supports the development of new circular solutions and business models.
Product Care and Repair
Our high-quality products are designed to last. Proper care and repairing minor wear-related damage can significantly extend the lifespan of an otherwise fully functional product. Extending the use phase of existing products helps reduce lifecycle-related environmental and climate impacts, particularly when it reduces the need to purchase new products (WRAP 2024).
We provide guidance and support for product care and repair through our website and customer service. Read our care instructions here.
If a product develops a structural or aesthetic defect, customers are primarily advised to have it repaired in accordance with our complaint procedures by a service provider of their choice. We cooperate with the repair and care service Menddie, which offers our customers an easy way to maintain and repair products, as well as carry out alterations and other modifications. Read more about the service here.
In addition, our store locations work with several long-standing partners, such as local tailors and cobblers. We utilize their expertise both in complaint cases and in customers’ individual repair and alteration needs.
Second Hand as Part of Our Brick-and-Mortar Stores
In 2025, the store selection of the Your & More fashion chain we launched was expanded to include a second hand assortment. This makes circular economy principles a more visible part of the customer experience and encourages more sustainable consumption. The chain combines timeless, high-quality products with garment care and repair services, as well as Luhta’s existing Luhta ReUse take-back service.
