It is important for us that also future generations can enjoy outdoor sports and activities, and carefree leisure time. We are doing our part to ensure this by reducing our emissions and conserving natural resources.

We recognize that our operations throughout the value chain have an impact on the climate and the environment. As a company, we have an important role to play in reducing and preventing adverse environmental impacts in terms of climate, resource use, water, waste and biodiversity. We also want to develop solutions that can contribute to sustainable development, both within our business operations and in the clothing sector as a whole.

We are working ambitiously to reduce emissions through our climate targets and our climate work. We also aim to reduce our climate and environmental impacts by promoting the circular economy, systematically moving towards our 2040 circular economy target. We strive to minimize other environmental impacts by conserving natural resources and taking responsibility into account in the design, material selection and production of products. We have also started development work related to nature and biodiversity.

Our climate targets

Luhta Sportswear Company has set short- and long-term climate targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which were officially validated by the SBTi in 2025. Luhta Sportswear Company’s climate targets cover Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions for the entire global value chain, including all of the Group's brands, operations, and supply chains. The SBTi validation of our targets confirms that our updated climate targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions are in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5 °C.

Near-Term Targets

  • Luhta Sportswear Company commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 54.6% by 2033 from a 2023 base year.

  • Luhta Sportswear Company also commits to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 61.1% per MEUR value added* within the same timeframe.

Long-Term Targets

  • Luhta Sportswear Company commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2023 base year.

  • Luhta Sportswear Company also commits to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions 97% per MEUR value added* within the same timeframe.

  • Luhta Sportswear Company commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050.

*The target is an intensity target, i.e., the target takes into account the growth or contraction of business operations.

Achieving net zero by 2050 requires innovation, commitment to continuous development, concrete measures, and close cooperation with all our stakeholders. We recognize that to achieve our goals, we must work closely with our partners and promote change throughout our value chain.

“Climate change is a challenge we all face together – and solving it requires action. At Luhta Sportswear Company, we want to take responsibility by reducing emissions both in our own operations and throughout the value chain. The targets validated by SBTi give us a science-based and globally comparable metric that allows us to show that we are moving to the right direction. It also gives our customers and partners confidence that we are serious about taking responsibility for the climate.” - Juha Luhtanen, Luhta Sportswear Company's CEO

Plan and Actions to Mitigate Climate Change

We take a wide range of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We have established a transition plan to mitigate climate change and will continue to work towards our climate targets in line with the plan. Read more about the plan in our Annual Report here.

The majority (about 96%) of our emissions are indirect scope 3 emissions in the supply chain, which is typical for a manufacturing business. Our biggest emissions come from the manufacture of textile materials and products. Promoting the circular economy is one of our main ways to reduce emissions from the manufacture and use of materials and products. In our procurement and product development, we have set clear measurable targets to increase the use of materials that are more responsible and sustainable. For our individual product brands, we have created roadmaps and set measurable targets to support us in our climate targets. Through material selection and close cooperation with material manufacturers, we can make a significant contribution to minimizing emissions.

Between 2022 and 2025, we have implemented the following measures to develop our climate work and mitigate climate change:

  • Identification and analysis of climate-related impacts, risks and opportunities

  • Annual carbon accounting across the value chain and development of the calculation process

  • Updating climate targets and approval from the SBTi for short- and long-term targets

  • Updating environmental policy and procurement guidelines to take account of climate change and emission reduction targets

  • Increased use of renewable energy in buildings and installation of solar panels

  • Training of own staff and suppliers on climate change, emissions accounting, and necessary emission reduction measures

  • Material development and promotion of circular economy measures

  • Creation of a climate transition plan in line with the updated climate targets

  • Updating car and travel policies, replacing the company's vehicles with electric and hybrid cars

  • Optimizing logistics

  • Training suppliers in emissions accounting and climate issues, and requiring our key suppliers to set their own science-based emissions reduction targets

  • Investment plans to minimize scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions from the company’s own production and distribution centres and premises

  • Active participation and stakeholder engagement to promote climate work.

  • Scenario analysis in accordance with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework: assessment of financial risks and opportunities under two different climate scenarios (1.5°C and 3°C warming)

Emissions Calculation

We regularly monitor our emission sources and the development of our carbon footprint. We calculate the Scope 1–3 emissions of our entire global operations annually in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard. We strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a variety of measures.

The majority (approximately 96%) of our emissions are indirect Scope 3 emissions from the supply chain, which is typical for a manufacturing-based business. Our largest emissions come from the production of textile materials and products. Promoting the circular economy is one of our main ways to reduce emissions from the manufacturing and use of materials and products. In our procurement, we have set measurable goals to increase the use of more responsible and sustainable materials. For our individual product brands, we have developed roadmaps and targets that support our climate goals. Through our material choices and close collaboration with material manufacturers, we can make a significant impact on minimizing emissions.
